UNESCO Director-General Azoulay Plans to Attend Sarazm 5500th Anniversary Celebrations

The celebration of the 5500th anniversary of ancient Sarazm is scheduled for September 12. The UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay is expected to attend the celebrations. This was provided today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin.

“2019 was a fruitful year in terms of cooperation between Tajikistan and UNESCO. In particular, at the UNESCO general conference, Tajikistan’s proposal to celebrate the 5500th anniversary of Sarazm and the 700th anniversary of the famous poet Kamol Khujandi was included on the UNESCO Holidays List,” Muhriddin said.

Within the framework of his official visit to France, the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay to discuss cooperation between Tajikistan and UNESCO.

President Emomali Rahmon expressed his gratitude to UNESCO’s contribution toward the development of cooperation in the fields of culture, science and education.

The meeting covered the preservation of valuable historical and cultural heritage of the Tajik people, including the inclusion of historical and cultural sites situated in the territory of Tajikistan i.e. in the Great Silk Roads in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In the context of globalization, preservation of natural history, values, including language, national culture of ancestors and noble traditions and customs is of great importance, noted President Emomali Rahmon.

President Emomali Rahmon Approves Symbol of 5500th Anniversary of Ancient City of Sarazm

The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon approved a symbol of celebration of the 5500th anniversary of the ancient city of Sarazm. The symbol was approved in accordance with the suggestion of the Chairman of the organizing committee, Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda.

The symbol was prepared by the Union of Artists of Tajikistan on the basis of conclusions of experts of the Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Culture and Presidential Assistant on Social Development and Public Relations.
